Positive reception of CSOK Plus
On 1 January 2024, CSOK Plus was launched, which was positively received by Hungarians. A large share of people has heard of CSOK Plus, and the majority say it is a great help for married couples planning to have children to create a home. Almost all adult Hungarians agree that the state should support the home creation of families who wish to have children – according to the latest research of the Mária Kopp Institute for Demography and Families (KINCS).
The vast majority of Hungarians aged 18 and over (81 percent) have heard of CSOK Plus, the terms of which are well known to many, three-quarters know that it can only be used by married couples, and seven out of ten know that it offers a maximum amount of HUF 15, 30 or 50 million based on the number of children. Two-thirds of people are aware that CSOK Plus can be borrowed with a maximum interest rate of 3% and the state releases HUF 10 million from the debt after the birth of the second child. Married people and those with one child are the most knowledgeable.
One in three young people under the age of 30 and parents with young children plan to use CSOK Plus in the future. A fifth of adult Hungarians and a quarter of those raising children answered that they or someone in their family has already taken CSOK before.
Almost all Hungarians (94 percent) agree that the state should support the home creation of families who wish to have children, and there is also a high proportion (85 percent) of those who think that families should live in their own property. Nearly three-quarters (73 percent) of those surveyed agree that CSOK Plus requires having a child, and 68-68 percent believe that CSOK Plus will also help increase the desire to have children and marry.
Methodology: The national representative survey was conducted by telephone interviewing a thousand people among the adult Hungarian population between 23-30 November 2023.
