KINCS Minutes – About families with children: The latest short film of the Mária Kopp Institute about the results of Hungarian family and demography policy
Hungary protects and supports families raising children in order to ensure that having and bringing up children represent a favourable financial situation rather than a financial difficulty.
This was not the case between 2002 and 2010. Left-wing governments have excluded families with one child and families with two children from family taxation, abolished the system of home creation and shortened the period of childcare.
In 2010, a family-friendly turn took place. Since then, the standard of living of Hungarian families has been steadily improving, which is well demonstrated by the fact that the per capita income of families with children has doubled on average.
Today, the family tax reduction represents a saving of up to tens of thousands of forints per month for 1 million families. In families with two children, the amount doubled after 2016.
The housing allowance for families, CSOK, has already been used by 200 thousand families and the home renovation subsidy has been used by more than 100 thousand families.
While there were 70 cars for hundred families with children in 2010, there are now 98. The car purchase support for large families was requested by more than 36 thousand people.
More than 200,000 married couples have already received the prenatal baby support loan, which has increased the number of weddings and births since July 2019.
Hungary is a family-friendly country, where families with children are valued. Let's keep it like that, let's keep our common treasures.
