KINCS Minutes – About the Elderly: The latest short film of the Mária Kopp Institute about the results of Hungarian family and demography policy
Hungary values the elderly; the role of grandparents is of paramount importance in our communities and families. The sixth episode of the KINCS Minutes is showcasing the measures supporting the elderly.
Between 2002 and 2010, left-wing governments took away the 13th month pension from retirees and devalued their pensions.
In 2010, a family-friendly turn took place. Since then, pensioners have been guaranteed the preservation of the real value of pensions each year.
In 2022, the elderly received the full amount of the 13th month pension and they can count on the pension premium payments from year to year.
With the help of the Women 40 program - also called grandmother's pension - more than 327 thousand women have been able to retire after 40 years of eligibility period since 2011. This is also important because - as the research of KINCS proves - where there is help from the grandparents, the willingness of having children also improves.
Hungary is a family-friendly country where the elderly is honoured. Let's keep it like that, let's keep our common treasures.
