Memorandum of Understanding was concluded between the International University of Catalonia (UIC Barcelona) and the Mária Kopp Institute

The Institute for Advanced Family Studies of the International University of Catalonia (Universitat Internacional de Catalunya, UIC Barcelona) and the Mária Kopp Institute for Demography and Families (KINCS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The aim of the MoU is carrying out knowledge exchange, joint scientific research activities - in particular about families, demography, and the education of family life, joint publications and creation of joint education materials, providing mutual publication possibilities as well as organizing joint expert’s meetings and scientific conferences.

The Mária Kopp Institute for Demography and Families (KINCS)- has concluded a Memorandum of Understanding with the Institute for Advanced Family Studies of the International University of Catalonia (UIC) and this way has moved to the international scene - said Gergely Ekler State Secretary for Families at the international press conference. He stated that among others the responsibility of the Mária Kopp Institute is to bring home the best practices related to family policy.

Gergely Ekler said that it gives a reason for pride that Hungary spends almost 5% of its GDP on family support. The Government provides support in different spheres of family life such as related to the intention of having children, family taxation, housing as well as the car purchase support for large families – he added.

Tünde Fűrész, the President of the KINCS stated that the Institute has concluded Memorandum of Understandings with more domestic universities.

As part of the signed MoU the parties undertake to conduct joint research and publish in each other’s journals – mentioned the President of the Institute. Furthermore, Tünde Fűrész emphasized that family science education is going on since 2004 in the Catalan university that can be adapted to the Hungarian tertiary education.

The President of the KINCS also highlighted that in November the Institute organizes again the meeting of Executive Network for Family Values awaiting experts from 31 countries. The representative of International University of Catalonia will attend the event as well.

Dr. Montserrat Gas Aixendri, Director of the Institute for Advanced Family Studies of the UIC Barcelona stated that the Institute has been operating since 2004 in Spain and it is the only institute nationwide that is dealing with family policy related research. She is honoured that UIC is the first international university with whom KINCS has set a MoU.

According to the director, an outstanding work is going on in the field of Hungarian family policy; it is strange for them in Western Europe to experience that they should learn from Hungary which measures to take and how to get through these harsh demographic times – formulated the director of the Institute.

Dr. Montserrat Gas Aixendri believes that they should learn a lot from Hungary as well as from those countries who think similarly in family policy matters contrary to those who vote for migration policy.

At the end of the press conference Tünde Fűrész and Dr. Montserrat Gas Aixendri have signed the Memorandum of Understanding in the name of the two institutions.
